==Recollections by Rezik== Captain Garvyn, he got away, but I will find him. He’s the reason why I joined Jeroy, Dereth, Pearl, and Amon to investigate these Octopus Pirates that Captain Jenny Harkens posted about. I figured that she might know something about Captain Garvyn, at least some rumors about him and his ship. (Guess what. She didn’t.) We found Captain Harkens at a local sailor’s tavern, A Passing Wind. She told us that her ship had been boarded and her crew taken by Captain Jarzon of The Inheritor. She wanted us to help her get her crew back. We agreed to help her and she told us that we would be sailing out to Kraken’s Landing and that’s where we would find the crew and Captain Jarzon. During our passage to Kraken’s Landing, Captain Harken confides in us that she actually only cares about Red Bertram’s rescue, her lover, and that she’ll pay handsomely for his well being. I found that pretty odd, but I guess she must really love Red. Once we arrived to Kraken’s Landing, we came ashore and began searching for the crew. We found a cave that had a number of pirates drinking and partying around a campfire at the entrance. We snuck up to them and were able to dispatch them pretty quickly. Jeroy and Dereth ran into the cave, while the rest of us caught up. We were getting close to the entrance when one of the pirates we had just killed (it was a pirate who had an octopus symbol tattooed on him) turned into an oozing mass of mouths, eyes, and tentacles (we find out later that it’s a Babbling Horror). We quickly kill the Horror and make our way up to Jeroy and Dereth. As we enter the cave, we realize that there’s another group of pirates that have noticed us. They’ve hunkered down in the next cavern, deeper in the cave. Pearl creates a wall of thorns, locking the pirates in the cave. Interestingly enough, while behind the wall of thorns, one of the pirates turned on her colleagues. Price, a skilled warrior, killed the rest of the pirates and joined us - telling us that she disagreed with Captain Jarzon’s religious beliefs. When we went further into the cave, we finally found Red and the crew. They jailed and unconscious, but otherwise alive. We decided that it would be best if they stayed put while we went after Captain Jarzon first, and that we would come back for Red and the crew after. The back of this cavern opened up to the outside, a beach, where we saw an altar and a ship (The Inheritor). Around the alter were acolytes, bandits, and Captain Jarzon himself attempting to sacrifice one of Captain Harken’s crew on the altar. I attempted to quickly incapacitate Captain Jarzon, so he couldn’t complete the ritual, but I wasn’t fast enough. As he was stunned, his hand still fell, slitting the crew member’s throat, turning the water blood red. Out from the ocean came a Kraken, not an octopus! We fought the Kraken and nearly all died, but in the end were victorious. Once the Kraken was killed, we took some time to heal ourselves (I kept some of the Kraken tentacles, you never know when it might come in handy). Price took the opportunity to tell us that she would be taking The Inheritor. I’ve always thought about owning a vessel like that, but maybe another time. She let us know she owes us one - that could come in helpful when I’m searching for Garvyn again. When we went to check Jarzon’s quarters, we found an interesting arcane ritual that seemed to written in Draconic, but not actually Draconic. We’ll have to spend some time researching it for sure. There wasn’t much else in his quarters. We met back up with Captain Harkens and made our way back to Solace. She paid us what we were promised and let us know she owed us a favor (another Captain’s favor could be helpful!). We went back to the Magistery and debriefed with Grandmaster Aetheres. During our conversation we spoke a lot about the awakening of the Kraken and how many believe the Kraken to be dead. We left our conversation with some unsettling thoughts and questions: # Could Umberlee be interested in the Kraken? Could she be trying to revive the Kraken and for what purpose? # Could the Silence of Lolth be similar to Selune’s dead, the trigger for awakening the Kraken previously? # Since many believe that there is a finite number of Divine Sparks, if Umberlee truly is divine, where did she get her Spark from?
