The Ancestral Guardians of Jeroy Lenkins

Leroy Jenkins comes from a line not of noble barbarians but of those of the land. His forefathers did not raise a goblet of grog at lavish festivals, they tilled the land and fought in the wars those festivals celebrated. As his ancestors did, Jeroy grew up tending to his family’s meager farm as he father, Sgiggen Lenkins, his grandfather, Taekr Lenkins, his great-grandfather, Glolsef Lenkins, and his paternal ancestor, Drulres Lenkins did before him.

Jeroy was raised with little other than work. His days consisted of waking with the sun, tending to the fields and their workhorses till the night, and falling asleep often without a proper supper. What food they had was only enough for only meager meals. It pained Jeroy to see his mother struggle and would push away his food saying he wasn’t hungry. He would split half of his plate with his family and the other with his workhorses. They were his most faithful companions. He was happy to sacrifice for them as he saw them sacrificing for him.

His Klan, the Sgods, celebrated annual festival to celebrate the victory over a hoard of invading Drow. His family, both maternal and paternal, paid for this victory in the only way they could afford, their blood. Several of his ancestors were lost in the battles. They have charged valiantly into battle, leading their fellow Klansman in some of the darkest days the battle. For there bravery and courage they were buried and forgotten. Jeroy grew up hearing the stories of his brave ancestors from his mother and father but those stories of bravery, and their heroism, were lost from his fellow barbarians. They were not remembered for their struggles, the glory was cascaded upon the elite barbarians who lined up behind his ancestors, scared to lead the charge but happy to chant and cheer their victory.

Only once has Jeroy enjoyed the joy of a gift during his youth, an ax. It is a plain ax with a simple handle and leather wrapped handle but it was new. Jeroy grew up having only the castaway tools and cloths of other, tools from his father and forefathers. Nothing for him was new. But one day during the festival his mother surprised him with an ax. The brilliance of its edge was unspectacular to most, but for Jeroy it shined brighter than the sun. The handle’s finish was clean, free of cuts, and gouges. The leather wrapped handle was tight and felt strong in his powerful hands. As he held the ax he looked to his mother in disbelief. He had no idea how she could have afforded something so special. Before he could speak she placed her arm on his shoulder and said, “There is one more thing. You carry with you the strength of your ancestors, their bravery, their love for their people. You are destined for more than what is on this farm. You leave for the Magistry tomorrow. Maternal Great Grandparents • Thig Skeirdolr: A farmer in the streets but a freak in the sheets. Her adultery was legendary • Olk Snanrolr: A bitter barbarian till his bitter end • Veis Jedorfes: The kindest and more caring person one could have known. • Fretgag Thorsonn: This is the one in the family that touched little boys, there is always one

Maternal Grandparents • Grel Snanrolr: She is the one that taught Jeroy the meaning of a hard day’s work. The toughest person he ever knew. • Hogladar Thorsonn: He died young, at the same age of Jeroy now

Paternal Great Grandparents • Shilsus Threnbaff: She cleans everything three times to avoid the stench of her parents • Unliff Yakkom: The barbarian that preferred books to battles. He was the most knowledgeable of all his ancestors • Fridlergri Bar: She could drink any man under the table • Glolsef Lenkins: A hardworking barbarian and farmer.

Paternal Grandparents • Glotrath Yakkom: A well read barbarian who taught Jeroy in his youth about nature and the world beyond their family farm • Taekr Lenkins: The only man who worked harder and longer than Jeroy. Jeroy strives to make him proud of what he has become.
