The Drow society in Menzoberranzan is formally governed by the Ruling 8, or the 8 most powerful noble houses in Drow High Society. Invitation to the ruling 8 is the purview of the highest house, currently House Baenre, and the highest house is determined by a ruling vote. House Baenre has been the ruling house of Menzoberranzan for millenia.

The apparant ruling house in Menzoberranzan. House Baenre is first among the 8 Ruling Houses of Menzoberranzan. Gromph Baenre, a male Drow Magic User whose power might be the only to rival that of Lord Dyrr.

House Agrach Dyrr
House Dyrr's loyalties are unknown. Actions of their only known member, Lord Dyrr suggest that they COULD be allied to NEITHER House Melarn nor House Yauntyrr.

House Duskryn is a ruthless meritocracy with a Master leading, may be amenable to recruitment to Melarn's side if the Magistery can offer something comparable to being a Ruling 8 house.
House Melarn
Led by Mistress Halisstra Melarn, this house seems to be important among Drow Houses. In fact it sits among the Ruling 8, the highest houses in Drow high society. In addition to its drow members, House Melarn also claims the loyalty of the Draegloth in the Underdark.

Other Houses
House Yauntyrr
Led by Headmistress Danifae Yauntyrr, House Yauntyrr seems to be at the center of the plot to release the Chaos Curse on Solace. though we have encountered her minions in the form of the Black Ice Gang, intelligence suggests that Danifae herself has yet to leave the Underdark and indeed would be among the last to do so, should her plot succeed. Other evidence suggests that House Yauntyrr was once allied to House Melarn though now they are at odds. We have no independent verification of this intelligence, however.
