Sent by the Red to track down the source of the "Dark Magic" identified by Cassio, Cassio's squire Amos recruited Avant, Ember, and myself to follow a trail beginning with a shield from Velah's horde. Cassio came by this shield from Amon, and in turn, left into Amos's care. Seeking more knowledge into the provenance and nature of the shield, we consulted Freind Rezik in his slowly sinking tower. Rezik told us that inside the otherwise ordinary shield, is trapped a malevolent sentience.

... and so it seems that young Amos, may now hold the key to destroying Nerull. For inside him now resides a piece of what once was Salim Farstrider. His memories restored, that piece of Salim now holds the secret to creating Balefire - channeling through Orichalcum. It also now controls the body of Amos, though not at all times... somehow, perhaps due to his strong back, Amos managed managed not to be destroyed utterly by this entity, but while he persists inside Amos, the more likely he is to take over completely. Salim has agreed to help destroy Nerull, but will want something from us, most likely to remain in possession of Amos' body, and to remain in the world. One problem at a time, however, first Nerull, then something will have to be done about Salim.
