Whoops.
Recollections by Kaylorr edit edit source
Headed back to vault of night with Ember, Cassio, Zanna, and Rezik. Garnet wanted to visit mother's homeland. We find the door way to the Dwarves' fortress closed by a giant obsidian door. There was a mural etched in the door depicting a battle between Shar and Selûne. "Walk in darkness and be saved" was also found etched on the door. We make our way through the door which turned out to be trapped and find ourselves in a passage going left and right. The path left turned out to be a dead and end so we turned right. We enter a room emanating a sickening purple glow and we all immediately feel nauseated. The room contained 4 mirrors which erupt in fire when we turn them towards the fountain of sick light. After, we explore and find a room with an alter that was made to honor Shar and Selûne. To the south was another room that seemed to be some sort of workshop. Here we found 28 potions, 20 potions of watchful rest, 2 potions of diminution, and 6 potions of comprehension.
Moving forward to the east we walk into another room and find a stranger standing there. Zork is what he called himself and he seemed to have been expecting us. Blocked by what we learn is Forcewall and communicating with us via magical stones, Zork offers us a contract to us. In exchange for a cloak of unknown origin we were to cast a True Resurrection to assist his master. Though we were skeptical, we all agree to the terms as we were here for Garnet and Ember.
Zork's master turns out to be Mordenkainen and the being we were casting TR on turns out to be Velah. He teleports us to a what looked to be Velah's old plane and Ember followed through with the contract terms and cast TR... soooooo that happened. Velah is back and we make a quick escape by way of Zanna before Velah woke up.
Ember's reward for casting TR was the cloak from Mordenkainen which turned out to be just a simple, non-magical, ordinary cloak.

Ember does a grieving? Date: 12/26/347
Ember and Garnet wanted to explore the Plane of Night, so we started our journey by teleporting to the Vault of Night. When we arrived, we saw the portal, but instead of being open it was covered in an obsidian stone.
When we investigated the stone, we saw an image of two figures in battle, with the line "Walk in the darkness and be saved" inscribed. The image depicted Shar & Selune in battle, a known image of dark vs light. We realized the following:
"Shar, often called the Mistress of the Night, is the evil goddess of darkness, dungeons, forgetfulness, loss, night, and secrets. She and her sister Selûne, goddess of the moon, were the first deities to form after the Overgod Ao created the world. The two are fierce rivals and her followers frequently come into conflict. Selune is the goddess of light, the moon, stars, navigation, wanderers, and good lycanthropes. Her sister and primary foe is the goddess Shar."
We attempted to figure out how to open the door and then finally decided to simply pull the door apart. When we opened it, we accidentally triggered a trap, but the door opened. On the other side, we saw a tunnel that forked. We decided to follow the side of Shar, in an attempt to "walk in the darkness".
Zanna scouted ahead and entered the room first. She realized that all the tiles were false, and lead to a huge empty pit. We had to find our way across and used Cassio's Rod of Lordly Might to create a bridge we could use.
When we opened the door on the other side of the room, we were bathe in an eerie purple light that seemed to sap our energy. In the room was a cauldron in the middle with four mirrors covered in oil around it. When we began to move the mirrors they created sparks and caught on fire, creating huge explosions. Gramph and I used our spells to put out the fires as everyone turned the mirrors towards the cauldron. The mirrors reduced the impact of the light of cauldron.
We followed the hallway down and came across a room that seemed to be built for a tinkerers lab. We found 28 vials that we decided we would identify later.
Since the room was a dead end, we back tracked to the room with the cauldron and went our way north. When we opened the door we were stunned by a bright light. When we finally could see again, we saw an altar depicting Behomet & Tiamat in a swirl, similar to the initial image we saw on the door into the "dungeon".
We finally entered the last room and came across a mysterious man named Zorc at the end of the hallway. He seems to be unable to hear or talk to us unless we speak to him through a rock he had. Cassio picked up the rock and did the talking - probably not our best idea.
He offers a contract to us to cast a True Resurrection for his master in a trade for a cloak. We all agreed, if anything just to see where this took us. Our thinking being that anyone that could get us here and tell of our coming would be powerful enough to get a True Resurrection from someone else, it is better for us to be a part of it so that we could at least learn of what is coming.
When we agreed, Zorc went to go get his master. The master turned out to be Mordenkainnen. He brought us to his dimensional mansion (maybe) and instructed Ember to cast the spell.
The person Ember was to resurrect was Velah. Ember cast the spell and Velah materialized, in a slumber but stirring. We took this as our cue to leave and we came back to our plane, to discuss what had just transpired.
I'm not sure what Mordenkainnen has planned for Velah, but his schemes are tiring. We'll need to spend some time understanding exactly what he has planned and more importantly why.

These fools, I can't believe they've managed to mess with my plans yet again. At least this time I got something out of it.
